Neutralising Amines (Morpholine and Cyclohexylamine)
Morpholine and cyclohexylamine are neutralising amines that raise the pH of steam condensate to reduce carbonic acid corrosion in condensate return lines.

- How it is applied
- Dosed into feed water or steam header
What is Neutralising Amines (Morpholine and Cyclohexylamine)?
Alkalinity in boiler water breaks down to carbon dioxide, which leaves with the steam and forms carbonic acid in the condensate, thinning and grooving return lines.
Neutralising amines are volatile, travel with the steam and raise the condensate pH. Morpholine and cyclohexylamine distribute differently between steam and water, so they are often blended to protect both short and long lines.
Where neutralising amines is used
- Condensate return line corrosion
- Plants with high iron in returned condensate
- Steam distribution networks
How to use neutralising amines
- Dose into the feed water or steam header.
- Measure condensate pH at several points.
- Adjust the blend and dose for your network.

Frequently asked questions
Why do condensate lines corrode?
Carbon dioxide released in the boiler forms carbonic acid in the condensate. Neutralising amines raise the condensate pH to reduce this attack.
