Hardening soft stone and dusty concrete with a densifier

Soft marble, limestone, terrazzo and concrete wear quickly, scratch easily and will not hold a polish. A densifier soaks into the surface and hardens it from within, which raises abrasion resistance and helps mechanical polishing. A densified floor is harder, not stain-proof, so seal it afterwards where food and drinks are used.

How to densify a soft marble floor (Densi-Shield 200 method)

  1. Grind to 200 grit to remove old sealer and the worn top layer. The stone must be bare.
  2. Clean off all slurry, dust and oil and let the floor dry.
  3. Ventilate and keep the surface above 4°C.
  4. Protect skirting, walls, wood and metal.
  5. Apply with a mop or sponge and spread evenly with a soft cloth, section by section.
  6. Keep re-applying until the stone stops absorbing. Softer stone takes more.
  7. Let it dry 24 hours before polishing further.
  8. Continue polishing through the finer grits. For a second stage, apply Densi-Shield 800 after 800 or 1200 grit.
  9. Seal areas exposed to oil, food or drinks once polishing is finished.

Frequently asked questions

What does a stone densifier do?

It soaks into soft stone or concrete and hardens it from within, raising abrasion resistance and helping the floor take and hold a polish.

Can I apply a densifier over an old sealer?

No. Old sealer or wax blocks penetration. Grind it off completely first, for example to 200 grit.

Does a densifier replace a sealer?

No. A densified floor is harder but not stain-proof. Apply a stain-proof sealer after polishing in kitchens and dining areas.

How much densifier do I need?

Densi-Shield 200 covers about 3 to 5 m² per litre for one saturation; Concrete Hardener and Limestone Densifier about 10 to 15 m² per litre.
