Ferric Chloride
An iron-based liquid coagulant for effluent, sewage and raw water treatment that settles suspended solids, removes phosphate and helps dewater sludge.
- Supplied by Zyax Chem, Mumbai

- Bulk packs, delivered across India
- What it does
- Coagulates suspended solids, colour and phosphate
- Used in
- ETPs, STPs, raw water clarification, sludge conditioning
- Forms
- Liquid solution in carboys and tankers
- How it is applied
- Dosed with a pump into a rapid mixing tank, usually followed by polyelectrolyte
What is Ferric Chloride?
Ferric chloride is a salt of iron that forms heavy iron hydroxide flocs when added to water. The flocs trap suspended solids, colour, some heavy metals and phosphate, and settle quickly in a clarifier.
Compared with alum it works over a wider pH range and forms denser flocs, which is why it is common in industrial effluent and sewage plants. It is acidic, so it lowers the pH of the water and may need alkali correction.
Where Ferric Chloride is used
- Primary treatment in ETPs and STPs
- Phosphate removal before discharge
- Sludge conditioning before filter press or centrifuge
- Clarification of raw water with high turbidity
- Removal of some heavy metals by co-precipitation
How to use Ferric Chloride
- Jar test to find the right dose and pH.
- Dose into a rapid mixing zone with a chemical-resistant pump.
- Correct pH with alkali if needed.
- Add polyelectrolyte to build larger flocs, then settle.
Choosing the right grade
To recommend a product and starting dose, send us:
- Type of water or effluent and flow
- Current COD, TSS, phosphate and pH
- Current coagulant and dose, if any
Handling and safety
Corrosive and stains concrete, skin and clothing. Store in plastic or rubber-lined tanks, never mild steel. Wear gloves, goggles and an apron when handling.

Frequently asked questions
Is ferric chloride better than alum?
It forms heavier flocs and works over a wider pH range, so it often performs better on industrial effluent. Alum or PAC may suit drinking water better. A jar test on your water decides.
Does ferric chloride lower pH?
Yes. It is acidic, so on low-alkalinity water you may need to add lime or caustic soda to keep pH in range.
Do you publish prices for Ferric Chloride?
Prices depend on the grade, pack size and quantity, so we quote on request. Send your requirement on WhatsApp at +91 98333 22685 or through the form on this page.
