What is Effluent Colour Remover (Decolouriser)?
Dissolved dyes pass through normal coagulation and leave the ETP coloured even when COD and TSS are in limits. A decolouriser is a cationic polymer that neutralises and binds the negatively charged dye molecules so they form flocs and settle out with the sludge.
It is usually used together with PAC, alum or ferric chloride and a polyelectrolyte. The best combination and dose depend on the dyes being used, so a jar test is needed.

Frequently asked questions
Why is my ETP outlet still coloured when COD is in limits?
Dissolved dyes are not removed well by coagulants alone. A decolouriser binds the dye molecules so they settle with the sludge.
Can a decolouriser replace PAC or alum?
Usually it works alongside a coagulant, not instead of one. A jar test shows the right combination.
