What is Cooling Tower Biocides and Algaecides?
Warm, aerated cooling water is ideal for bacteria and algae. Slime and algae block fill and nozzles, insulate heat exchanger tubes, cause corrosion under deposits and can harbour harmful bacteria such as Legionella.
A good programme combines an oxidising biocide (chlorine or bromine based) for routine control with an alternating non-oxidising biocide such as isothiazolinone, glutaraldehyde, BKC or DTC to prevent resistant populations.
